Bear
What can I say? This third retrospective talks about my encounter with Bear, and the stories of his Rainbow Computer.
Now I can tell what you’re thinking. Who the hell is Bear? You may have seen Bear on the TV once or twice, but not realised that. That is for another type of post, this is about how the story came about.
I’ve always wanted to tell the story of my childhood. Don’t we all? It’s just mine was so dull. Some might say, normal? But that chance meeting with my furry friend gave me an great opportunity to reopen the floodgates. And to visit his home of Canada.
And that is My ZX Spectrum in a nutshell. Bear told me his stories, and I wrote them down, give or take a bit of translation.
So, is this a kids book or not? Well, I guess reading through it, you would be forgiven for thinking it is aimed at those below the age of about five years old! But that is not the intent.
The audience of the story is twofold. Firstly, for those who remember what it was like to have to wait for something - both the machine itself and then for the software to load. It may even re-kindle a memory or two. Secondly, for those who don't know what it was like to live in this age. The age when technology was just starting to spread its wings without the ability to touch a screen, or call an API. When there wasn't always an app for that. Not a criticism of the younger generation in any shape or form. Just a reminder of how lucky you really are nowadays.
It is available on Amazon, both for purchase and through the Lending Library / Kindle Unlimited, as are my other efforts.
